How the Stars Came to Be - Dreamtime Story

A long time ago, in the middle of Australia, there lived a big Aboriginal tribe. In this tribe there lived a small group of 15 boys. They were best friends. Nothing could tear them apart. They cared for each other very dearly. They played together, they hunted together and they practically did everything together. They stayed together life or death and when I mean they stayed together, they stayed together wherever they were.

One night, in the bush, these 15 boys were playing with small, white smooth stones. While they were throwing to each other one boy’s rock was accidentally thrown into the creek nearby. This boy dived down to retrieve the stone but while he was down there a huge snake, with his tail, whipped the boy with his stone up to the sky. The boy was seen clenched to his stone and he eventually turned like the stone. When he could go no further, he stayed hanging still in the sky. The other boys missed their friend so much that they too, joined him in the sky. They were all divided in the sky and then broke into thousands of tiny pieces. They ended up so many that they were not 15 any more, they were thousands.

As their parents watched the sparkly sky at night, which was the only time they could see the boys, they always went out in to the bush. The bush was the best place to see them as the 15 boys were whipped into the sky in that place. Their parents never knew where they were or what they had become but we today know them as stars.

I like this story. Only I feel sorry and sad for the parents of these 15 boys.
