FISH Philosophy

History

It all started at the Seattle Fish Market when John Christensen was observing how happy the people working at Pike Place Fish Market. They would throw fish to each counter when they needed it and would fill the market with laughter. On some occasions they would ask the customers to join in with the fun. Not only would the people have fun but they would make a lot of money. With this observation, John Christensen made the FISH Philosophy.

The main concepts of the FISH are:
  • Play
  • Make their day
  • Be There
  • Choose your attitude

Play

Make the day fun with happiness and laughter. Not always can things be boring. If you have to wait in the docters clinic, instead of whining and complaining, listen to some music or read a book. It would be much more joyful and relaxing than your mother or teacher being angry or annoyed at you.

Make Their Day

Say you walk past a person sulking or just looking like something is wrong with them, what would you do? Walk by and forget about them or follow the FISH philosophy and sit down next to them and ask what is wrong? Think about if this person would do the same for you. Make their day and help them. One day you could get hurt or sad and they will remember your deed to them and will help you instead.

Be There

When you decide not to be at the swimming carnival just because you can, still go there and do some good cause. When you are at home watching TV or reading a book you could be there to cheer on your team and make your team proud. You being there for your team could increase your chances of winning and help people when they are feeling down. Be there for them and they will be there for you.

Choose Your Attitude

"I don't like my teacher," says Mary.

"Get a grip of yourself," says George.

"Choose your attitude with care and things might turn out O.K. for you and your teacher."

"But she is always mean to me and I don't like it," protests Mary.

Mary could be in a better mood is she had known the FISH Philosophy.
